    About the restaurant

Located in Cornwall, in the picturesque countryside between Newquay and Truro, The Tartan Fox is Chef Adam Handling MBE’s second venture in Cornwall, joining restaurant and bar Ugly Butterfly in nearby Newquay. The name ‘The Tartan Fox’ is inspired by Adam’s Scottish roots and the location of the pub, which is nestled in the middle of a Cornish forest and, much like a fox’s home, is a den to escape to in the countryside. A group of foxes is called an earth, which ties into his Collection’s commitment to sustainability. This is reflected in the pub’s interiors which focus on earthy tones and natural materials including stone and wood.

The pub itself is a 400-year-old Grade II listed building. Inside, the pub has 87 covers across two floors, which include the bar, wine room, restaurant and private and semi-private dining spaces. For private dining, The Flower Room within the restaurant hosts up to 12 guests; the antique Barn used for supper-clubs and stunning countryside weddings holds up to 24, and the tipi up to 120. The Tartan Fox has already established itself as a firm local favourite and was added to the Michelin Guide within just 5 months of its opening.

    On the menu

In keeping with the Collection’s ethos, The Tartan Fox embodies Adam's visionary approach to zero-waste, modern British food, underpinned by the philosophy of 'Sustainable, local luxury'. All produce used at the pub is locally sourced from in and around Cornwall, with the team also using homegrown ingredients from the pub’s vast garden space in the next growing season, to include vegetables, herbs, and flowers.

The food offering is similar to that of sister pub, The Loch & the Tyne, which has a Michelin Bib Gourmand and 3 AA rosettes but uses local ingredients from in and around Cornwall. The menu gives a new walk of life to classic pub fare, offering refined dishes made with outstanding Cornish produce, with a touch of Adam’s Scottish influence. Guests can expect delicious dining options, ranging from more casual snacks and pub classics to signature Adam Handling dishes, with a touch of Scottish influence. Alongside a selection of sustainable cocktails and local beers, there is an extensive wine list, showcasing wines from across the globe, as well as highlighting British excellence, covering the breadth of affordability to luxury.
