Watergate Bay's new ice rink adds a bold new twist to the festive season by the sea – and to winter breaks, Christmas stays and New Year celebrations in Cornwall.
From 17 November to 11 January, locals, guests and visitors alike can lace up and glide just seconds from the sand. Skating sessions will run daily, with family-friendly, accessible and adults-only hours – as well as seasonal packages including Skate & Stay. Skating is also included in the four-night Christmas and three-night New Year breaks.
These festive breaks will see sea dips, cliff path walks, carols, cocktails, Father Christmas and (hobby) reindeer racing on the beach. Clifftop Champagne, hot tubs, DJ sets, dancing, low tide strolls, laser light displays and rockpool treasure hunts… and new for 2025, ice skating all round.
A new winter experience in Cornwall
Watergate Bay’s active lifestyle meets winter’s festive spirit in this one-of-a-kind experience that brings even more reason to take in Cornwall off-season. Winter in Cornwall means empty beaches to explore, consistent swells for surfing, and dramatic skies to watch at Watergate Bay.
The ice rink will offer another exhilarating way for all ages to enjoy winter beach life, connect with the elements and celebrate the festive season with friends and family.
After a skate session, warm up with Extreme hot chocolates, mulled wine and woodfired pizzas served rinkside. For a full après-skate experience, burgers and winter menus in The Beach Hut and Zacry’s will include a nod to the mountains – all with front-row ocean views.
Get your skates on by the sea
The rink will be open daily, with family sessions, accessible skating, school visits, private hire for groups and Christmas parties, and adult-only hours – ensuring everyone gets a chance to glide their way. Penguin and polar bear skate aids will help younger skaters and beginners find their feet.
It’s likely to get booked up fast – so the best way to guarantee a glide is to stay at Watergate Bay Hotel, from £280 a night, with a skate session included in every night of your stay.
The ice rink is open every day from 17 November to 11 January, except Christmas Day.
