    The Lost Years of Richard Trevithick in Latin America, 1816-1827

    ‘The Lost Years of Richard Trevithick in Latin America, 1816-1827’ will be presented by Cornish writer Joel Griffett and include a two-course lunch.

    For the last three years Cornish author/historian Joel Griffett has been going back and forth to Latin America in search of information about Richard Trevithick's mysterious eleven-year adventure across two continents and five countries. Joel has followed his trail to these remote places in search of Trevithick's lost mines, as well as undertaking extensive research in the archives of Lima and San Jose. He published his first book last year recounting his adventures in the footsteps of other Cornish miners in Chile and Bolivia and has recently returned from yet another trip across the Atlantic to continue writing his next book, that will redefine the Cornish engineering great as a Latin American adventurer.

    Tickets cost £15pp and will include a two-course lunch and tea/coffee. Advanced booking is essential.

    Forgotten Women of the Cornish Coast

    ‘Forgotten Women of the Cornish Coast’ will be presented by Cornish writer, blogger and podcaster Elizabeth Dale and include a two-course lunch. Cornish writer, Elizabeth Dale, has been publishing her blog 'The Cornish Bird' since 2016 and in that time she has delighted in discovering many lesser-known stories from Cornwall's past.

    In this talk she introduces us to a wonderful group of feisty female characters, all with connections to our coast and all now faded into obscurity. Their stories, ordinary and extraordinary, help to illustrate why she finds Cornish history so endlessly fascinating and exciting.

    ‘Dark Tales of Cornish Smuggling will be presented by ‘The Piskie Trap’ podcast host Keith Wallis and include a two-course lunch.

    Join podcast host Keith Wallis for this talk delving into the murkier side of Cornwall’s past as we explore tales of smugglers, from stories of secret tunnels leading to the sea, rumours of murder, revenge and haunted pubs, to daring exploits and battles on beaches.

    Keith Wallis is host of The Piskie Trap - a podcast series exploring the folklore, history and legends from across Cornwall. His recent work has involved a number of collaborations with leading historians, writers, folklorists and storytellers, as part of a movement to preserve local folklore traditions, and to promote Cornish history and heritage.
