This week is suitable for anyone wishing to improve their bridge – from recent beginners to club players. The emphasis throughout is on learning and improving, so all play is supervised and non-competitive. Players can ask questions and your host can suggest a line of bidding or play.

Supervised Play will be Chicago style. The bidding and play are identical to duplicate bridge, but there is no time pressure and players can join and leave play sessions as and when they wish.

Bite sized seminars are single topic and light touch, lasting about 10 to 15 minutes and followed by supervised play with randomly dealt hands. Lessons are in depth and may cover multiple (related) topics. They are followed by the play of set hands (with answers!) allowing you to practice what you’ve just been taught. All lessons are designed to appeal to a wide range of abilities.

It is 1964, at the height of the Cold War and a secret meeting has been arranged for a country hotel close to the coast.

A British MI5 Senior Officer is planning to defect to the USSR and arrangements have been made for him to meet with his KGB contact at the hotel tonight, before being taken by boat to Russia. But it appears others are in attendance, others who have a vested interest in the defecting officer, together with the future of national security ……. but just who is the unknown Stranger?

Join us for a creative calligraphy workshop with a festive twist.  Run by Lyndsey of Wild Sea Calligraphy, this workshop will teach you how to create basic shapes with a calligraphy pen, just in time for Christmas.

By the end of the workshop, you will have gained the confidence to be able to create your own quotes and favourite words to take home and use in your cards, gift tags and more.

Each guest will receive a calligraphy kit which includes a nib, penholder, letterpress greeting card, paper, 40 page workbook and ink

Now in its 20th year, our Gourmet Weekend is a feast for all the senses. Budock Vean's Head Chef and his team will create exquisite five-course dinners on Friday and Saturday, each dish paired with hand-selected wines and introduced with fun and fascinating wine facts.

Join us this December and make your own Christmas Wreath with local artist Fiona Pullen. Create your wreath using a natural theme, traditional Christmas or modern asymmetrical design … all using locally made willow bases.

Fiona, who is a member of the Helford River Artists Group, will set you up with your own workstation ready to create a beautiful masterpiece that you can enjoy throughout the festive season. There will be plenty of foliage and seasonal embellishments to choose from, plus mince pies and a drink.
